This week’s show:

My Producer's Notes

Our annual ‘Year In Review’ shows are always fun to listen to – and also to produce. It’s kind of like hitting the Lotto after an impulsive 'quick pick' at the checkout counter: You know how it could happen, but not whose name will be called.

In many ways, 2015 was a year of highs and lows. Big name Brazilian tours for America were at a near-record low, we said goodbye to Rick O'Dell's SmoothJazzChicago.net and the Latin Grammys were the usual hot mess for Brazilian hopefuls.

On the other hand, it was a year for Brazilian pop stalwarts to make their voices heard: Djavan, Gal Costa, Leila Pinheiro, Toco and Vanessa da Mata returned to our playlist. Ivan Lins delivered an epic album by reviving the style that made him one of Brazil’s best-known singers here in the USA and Eliane Elias headed home to record and release 'Made In Brazil' with Roberto Menescal, Ed Motta and Take 6 to earn a 2016 Grammy nomination. It's our 'Album of the Year'.

The Sounds of Brazil has always been on the cutting edge for the best of Brazil, and we continued the tradition by bringing new names to the forefront of US fandom in 2015: Ana Clara, Tiago Iorc, Tiê and Alexia Bomtempo made their debuts on our streaming station this past year.

Our end-of-the-year special captures the best of these and other performers in the studio and on stage. And in keeping with another long-held tradition, I’ll debut a few new songs that’ll help you get 2016 underway in tropically smooth style.

The Sounds of Brazil had its best year ever in 2015 and we celebrated our first anniversary as a streaming station on Thanksgiving Day. We've grown 170% in past 24 months - an incredible reflection of the loyalty and passion that we all share for Brazilian music - so thank you very much for your support this past year. It's

All in all, 2015 shaped up to be a very good year for Brazilian music, with an emphasis on exciting new voices. And you can count on The Sounds of Brazil to create new stories for 2016.

What will we be talking about next December?  Stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

Scott Adams
