How does a race driver think? What makes the "gears turn?" This morning, Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan was interviewed for the press, and while this article is really for die-hard fans, it does give you a pretty good understanding of what was going on with Tony Kanaan, his team... and his six-year-old son. Enjoy! - Scott Adams

Good Luck Charm

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 05/27/2013 - 12:01 pm

by Scott Adams
Brazil's Tony Kanaan won Sunday's Indy 500: the fastest race since its inception in 1911. After 11 years of competing for the victory, he's undeniably IndyCar's most popular winner in many, many years: the fans really like him. "Finally" he said, "I'm gonna put my ugly face on that trophy!"
But there's more to Tony Kanaan's victory: a story of care and compassion, and one that really shows the true Brazilian spirit of giving that I love so much.

Celebrating with Ivete Sangalo

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 05/27/2013 - 09:41 am

We’ve been celebrating musical birthdays all month long, and today we’ll add another candle for Ivete Sangalo, who is a phenomenon in her native country as a singer and songwriter of Brazilian Popular Music, and a Latin Grammy award winner. She also occasionally lends her talents as an actress and television show host in Brazil. Her albums have sold many millions of copies, and she has toured throughout the country and internationally, too.
Born in Bahia in 1972, Sangalo began singing at an early age at school and bars, her success eventually leading to a recording contract in 1993 with Sony to become the lead singer of the Axé group Banda Eva. Axé is a type of mus ...

Indy 500 Goes to Brazilian Tony Kanaan

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 05/24/2013 - 09:59 pm

Kanaan dove past Ryan Hunter-Reay on a restart with three laps to go, then coasted across the finish line under yellow when defending race winner Dario Franchitti crashed far back in the field.
The victory in the 97th running of the big race came in Kanaan’s 12th start. It came after several painfully frustrating close calls at winning Indy. It came in a race which featured a record 68 lead changes.
“I made it,” Kanaan said in Victory Circle. “I don’t know what to say."
Kanaan took the lead in Turn 1 with four laps to go. A couple of seconds later, three-time leader Dario Franchitti hit the wall to bring out the yellow. From there, he cruised at pace ...

Crossing Borders

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 05/11/2013 - 09:51 pm

Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto. Antonio Carlos Jobim and Creed Taylor. Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66. The US and Brazil have a long history when it comes to crossing borders, and what better way to appreciate it than with music?

Today, those legendary names have given way to closer generations of talented performers from both countries who have taken bold steps to traverse the distance between our two cultures. Sometimes the length of the journey can best be measured in terms of careers – or even in the minutes and seconds of a single song. Guitarists Lee Ritenour and Charlie Byrd come from opposite ends of the jazz spectrum, yet both have played an important role in br ...

The Music: Tropicalia is undeniably one of the most misunderstood and misidentified forms of Brazilian pop music.
Tropicalia (aka Tropicália or Tropicálismo) is undeniably one of the most misunderstood and misidentified forms of Brazilian pop music. Much of the confusion comes from the seeds of its creation and from the mostly unstructured desire of Brazil's youth generation of the late 60s to make an indelible cultural statement of its own.
Beyond the impetus ...

Sao Paulo Indy 300 Preview

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 05/01/2013 - 09:38 am

Eight weeks ago, Sao Paulo’s Anhembi Sambadrome reverberated with the percussion of Carnaval’s samba schools as they paraded through the giant stadium.
Today, IndyCar has headed south to the land of Samba and sun to replace those rhythms with the sharp staccato of unbridled horsepower. For Ana Beatrice, Tony Kannan and Helio Castroneves it's a homecoming; a chance to complete for the win in front of the home town crowd.
After three races, Castroneves is enjoying a great start to this year's IndyCar Championship: he's leading the series in points as prepares to race of the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil's (and Latin America's) largest metropolis.
The São Paulo Indy 300 is ...
