by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 04/01/2014 - 03:57 pm

Listen Live! is the official webstream provider for The Sounds of Brazil!

More people are listening to The Sounds of Brazil!
This is kind of an ‘inside baseball’ type of report (so please forgive me in advance), but there’s always a big red circle around the last day of the month on the calendar in our broadcast studio, and everyone here knows what it means: Report card time.
Well, the audience numbers for March 2014 are in and I’m very pleased to let you know that – together – we’ve reached a new all-time listening high for The Sounds of Brazil!
More listeners listened longer and more often than any previous month ...

Chicago Welcomes Maira Rita to City W...

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 10/29/2013 - 05:47 pm

Brazilian music fans in Chicago will welcome Maria Rita to the City Winery stage on February 5th and 6th 2014.
Additional dates will no doubt be added in the coming days and we will post venues for New York, Washington DC and South Florida on this page as soon as they are finalized.
In addition to having lived eight years in New York, Maria Rita had to prepare herself for a future of enormous responsibility. Perhaps her greatest challenge was to rise above the natural comparisons to her mother, Elis Regina, one of the all-time greatest singers of Brazilian popular music. But Maria Rita’s talent stands as testament to her own well-earned success: She won a Latin Grammy trifect ...

Cafezinho: Next Stop Wonderland

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 12/05/2013 - 09:56 pm

Earlier this week on The Sounds of Brazil, I mentioned that the 1998 movie ‘Next Stop Wonderland’ is playing now through the end of January on Flix and The Movie Channel. Perfect timing to forget about winter’s chill for awhile.
Although most reviews pass on the soundtrack’s leading role, this is a not-to-be-missed movie for Bossa Nova fans and a must-have album, too.
A Sundance Film Festival winner, ‘Next Stop Wonderland’ is a something of a romantic comedy centered on a not-completely-together single woman who lives her life to a Bossa Nova soundtrack. And she’s surrounded by a world of circumstance that decidedly does not.
Director Brad Anders ...

Cafezinho: Never Say Neve!

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 07/25/2013 - 11:33 am

What happened: A snow storm… in Brazil?
Why Is It Important: For many it was a once in a lifetime event, the first in more than 40 years.

The south of Brazil can get quite chilly in the dead of winter this time of year, but pretty much everyone – even the weather reporters – was taken by surprise earlier this week when snow covered the ground in Curitiba, to the depth of several inches. In fact, more than 140 cities in southern Brazil reported snow as children and adults took a ‘snow day’ to experience the rare and wonderful opportunity to slip, slide and build snowmen, leaving many to think that perhaps it’s best to leave global warming to th ...

Cafezinho: John Travolta in Rio

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 07/14/2013 - 01:00 pm

Maybe it was the hot sand, or maybe the Brazilian spirits really did move John Travolta last week during a commercial shoot for a popular Brazilian rum in Rio de Janeiro.
Has someone been testing the product?
Brazil Club can tell you that John Travolta looked in his element Wednesday, gleefully cutting a rug on the Rio de Janeiro set of a commercial he was shooting for a Brazilian rum maker.
Barefoot on the beach and wearing striped lounging pants and a black T-shirt, the smiling Oscar-nominated actor showed off his dance moves for the camera.
And while those moves weren't quite the caliber of the ones that launched his career in Saturday Night Fever and Grease, Travolta seemed to be hav ...

Cafezinho: Beco Dranoff

by Brazil Club - Let The Music Take You There on 06/27/2013 - 09:28 am

Who is he? Brazilian/American producer, consultant, composer, filmmaker.
Why is he important? When it comes to Brazilian music, he’s New York’s ‘go to’ guy.
If you’re a Brazilian music fan, chances are pretty good that you’ve already met Beco – residing in the liner notes and credits of dozens of albums like the soundtrack for ‘Next Stop, Wonderland’, ‘Red Hot+Rio’ and Bebel Gilberto’s ‘Tanto Tempo Remixes’. Lately, he’s received ink of a different sort – the form of glowing reviews for his film with co-producer Guto Barra, ‘Beyond Ipanema: Brazilian Waves in Global Music’ a ...
