One of Chicago's best summertime weekends is ready to get underway.

The 57th annual Chicago Air and Water Show takes to the skies above Lake Michigan off North Avenue Beach this weekend, August 15th and 16th from 10 am to 3 pm and thousands of spectators will crowd the waterfront for this free event. It's a Chicago summertime tradition. Here's what you will need to know about this year's Air & Water Show:

  • This year's headliners include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights and the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs.
  • The seven-plane Breitling Jet Team from France will make its Chicago debut during its U.S. tour.
  • The show can be viewed from Fullerton Beach all the way to Oak Street Beach and beyond, but the best viewing area is North Avenue Beach, if you don't mind the crowds.
  • The event is free and open to the public, but the beaches get crowded fast.
  • Certain items are prohibited from being brought onto North Avenue Beach, including alcohol, barbecue grills, fireworks, pop-up tents, balloons, kites, flag poles and all pets (except service animals). NBC

Meanwhile The City of Chicago has added two more beaches to it 'Free Wi-Fi' program, making it even easier to listen to our streaming station, when the sun calls your name this summer.

The beaches are the Margaret Burroughs Beach (aka the 31st Street Beach) and the 57th Street Beach, both on the south side.

The 'Free Wi-Fi' program began in 2013 and also includes Foster Beach, Kathy Osterman Beach (Hollywood Beach), Montrose Beach, North Avenue Beach and Rainbow Beach.
